National Silicates had their Safety Week for 2011 including guest speaker Jeff Bell.

The Salvation Army wrote a letter of appreciation to the Toronto West CAER Committee.

The Toronto West CAER Committee made a donation to the Salvation Army.

In May, 2009 our members assisted in the planning of and participated in the Newalta Spill Exercise.

Newalta welcomed their neighbours at their June, 2008 Open House.

BASF Canada welcomed their neighbours at their 2007 Open House.

In June our members assisted in the planning of and participated in the BASF Canada Spill Exercise.

Again in June our members participated at the Councillor Suzan Hall Community Environment Day 2007.

In May, 2007 the community celebrated the opening of the new 23 Division station of the Toronto Police Services.
We made a contribution to and attended at the 2006 Brass in the Grass Music and Arts Festival.

In September, 2006 our members assisted in the planning of and participated
in the National Silicates Spill Exercise. 
The Toronto West CAER Committee attended at sanofi pasteur's Enviro
Fair. 
Our members made a contribution towards the purchase of an automated
phone system for Toronto Police Service's 23 Division. 
We made a contribution to and attended at the 2005 Brass in the
Grass Music and Arts Festival. 
Our members assisted in the planning of and participated in June,
2005 in the Castrol-BP Spill Exercise.

The Toronto West CAER Committee made a donation to the Rob Ellis
Foundation for the promotion of safety to young workers.
We made a contribution to and attended the 2004 Lakeshore Community
Festival. 
This year (2004) we launched our own Toronto West CAER web site.
Members assisted in the planning as well as participated in the
Molson Spill Exercise. 
CAER Presentation to the City of Toronto's Emergency Planning Committee.

We provided the funding to Toronto Police Services' 23 Division
to purchase the computer operated information system in 2003 (Community
Safety Awareness Program) in order to alert residents and business
of safety issues in their community.
Members took part in the Golden Horseshoe CAER Conference involving
CAER groups from Toronto, York Region, Hamilton, Oakville/Mississauga,
Niagara and the Burlington Chemical Association.
Members took part in the Incident Management training programs offered
by the City of Toronto's Office of Emergency Management.
In 2002 our community outreach funding went to "Youth Without
Shelter" which enabled them to provide winter coats for homeless
young people.
The Etobicoke Guardian informed our community that since the September
11, 2001 attack our members are taking a pro-active approach to
safety and security.
CAER committee reminded of the importance of Material Safety Data
Sheets, emergency planning, decontamination procedures and the safe
transport of people involved in chemical incidents to hospital.
Committee members received training in media relations as well as
utilizing the training courses offered by the City of Toronto's
Office of Emergency Management.
Our all-Toronto CAER web site was launched in 2002.
In 2002 the first all-Toronto CAER meeting, involving groups from
the West, North, East, York Region and TRANSCAER.
The Toronto West CAER Committee took part in an information lecture
on Responsible CARE at the Toronto Hazardous Materials Conference.
Some of our members were able to donate training aids to the Toronto
Fire Services to be used in their training courses.
Spill training was provided to our member companies.
Due to the generosity of our member companies in supporting the
fire extinguisher training, the funds reserved for this event were
not required. The budgeted funds were donated to the Hospital for
Sick Children's Burn Unit.
Fire services training on Part 4 of the Fire Code was provided to
our members.
Hosted the Golden Horseshoe CAER Conference for the CAER groups
of Ontario.
Volunteers from the committee were involved with the IAPA's "Young
Workers Awareness Program" which is designed to inform young
people, who are either on co-op placement or entering the work force
for the first time, the importance of knowing WHMIS, chemical safety,
emergency procedures and the laws that protect them on the job.
Contributed funding for the purchase of the Decontamination Unit
for the City of Toronto's Fire Department. 
Sent out an information bulletin to the owners and operators of
businesses in Etobicoke who handle, store and use hazardous materials
concerning the importance of Material Safety Data Sheets, emergency
planning, decontamination procedures and the safe transport of people
involved in chemical incidents to hospital. This document was also
sent to area taxi companies.
Hosted a joint information session on "Emergency Response Table
Top Exercises - Planning and Implementation".
With the support of the Etobicoke Fire Department we designed Site
Plan Guidelines for Fire Response to Hazmat incidents. This document
was written for committee members to outline the areas a site emergency
plan should include to assist fire responders should they be called
to a hazardous materials incident at their facility.
With the assistance of the Etobicoke Fire Department, we gathered
information from member companies on the availability of emergency
supplies.
Purchased "Freddie the Fire Truck" robot for the Etobicoke
Fire Department. The robot is used in promoting fire safety through
public education.
Member companies prepared a list of training aids that are available
for loan.
1986: Established the Etobicoke CAER committee.
1991: Assisted the City of Etobicoke in the development of its Emergency
Plan.
1992: Observed the City of Etobicoke's Emergency Exercise - "STORM".
1993: Throughout the year each member company conducted tours of
their facilities.
1994: Identified areas that will improve safety - emergency planning,
mutual aid, training materials. |
